Note: At this time (2012 February 4th) the latest version is Silverlight 5.  If you’re using Microsoft’s Visual Studio, then Visual Studio 2010 SP1 (VS) should be your standard platform for WPF and Silverlight projects.  These are the presumed versions for all articles that follow.

To set up your toolset to start developing using Silverlight, the downloads and information on getting started can be found here.  If you’re on Windows and using VS, you’ll want to download the Silverlight 5 Tools for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 here.
